About

Operator experience, translated into independent counsel.

LNRD Ltd is the practice through which Paul Leonard works with boards, operators and the AI companies serving them — bringing 30 years of front-line project and commercial leadership into the room where decisions get made.

Founder

Paul Leonard

Paul is an independent advisor and Non-Executive Director working at the seam between capital-intensive energy projects, clean fuels and AI-enabled SaaS. His career spans oil & gas, concentrated solar, nuclear early-stage strategy, utility-scale renewables and BESS, and now sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) and renewable methanol — alongside active advisory and board roles with AI-enabled software businesses serving those same sectors. The common thread is operator DNA: knowing how multi-billion-pound programmes actually get delivered, and how modern AI-enabled tools can deepen the evidence base, widen the optioneering set, and bring the consistency and traceability that regulated, board-level decisions demand. LNRD’s own delivery model reflects this: AI-enabled and agentic-leading, with modern AI agents working under Paul’s direction on research depth, optioneering rigour and compliance-grade consistency for boards and operators.

Currently he holds three concurrent advisory positions. With Nova Sustainable Fuels he is engaged on the development of a Renewable Energy Park on Nova Scotia’s Eastern Shore — a fully integrated clean fuels platform combining onshore wind, solar and biomass to produce SAF and renewable methanol for hard-to-abate aviation and marine transport. As Non-Executive Director and Strategic Advisor to Intuety, he provides board oversight on the scale path of an AI-powered SaaS platform for health & safety compliance — £1m+ ARR, 100% YoY growth, with global reseller and white-label expansion underway. As Strategic Advisor to Enscypher AI, he supports the early-stage governance and capital strategy of an AI decision layer for operational procurement — the company behind UpTrade, which brings AI-led governance to urgent, unplanned MRO spot-buy. Before these current roles he was Divisional Director leading strategic EPC delivery of a £150m solar PV and BESS portfolio across the UK and Europe, and Commercial Director for multi-billion-pound nuclear early-stage programmes. Earlier chapters include $1bn+ upstream projects across the UAE, Saudi Arabia and Caspian region; concentrated solar in Oman; and supply chain leadership across four continents.

He holds a BA (Hons) in Law & Management from Robert Gordon University, specialising in contract law, commercial law, company law and business management — a governance foundation that sits underneath everything LNRD does.

How we think.

Principles

A small number of disciplines we return to on every engagement — whether the client is a 500MW solar developer, a Series B SaaS founder, or a board planning its next three years. All grounded in operator DNA.

01

Operator first, advisor second

We've built, delivered and commercially managed the things our clients are planning. Operator DNA means the advice is grounded in what actually happens in the field, on site, in the DNO queue, and in the customer call — not what sounds good in a slide.

02

Challenge, with evidence

Independent challenge is only useful when it's specific. We ask to see the interface register, the change log, the procurement commitments — because that's where programmes tell the truth.

03

Governance that supports momentum

We design governance and assurance frameworks that scale with the business — rigorous on outcomes, lean on process. Boards should see risks early, not slow down the teams managing them.

04

Cross-sector clarity

We borrow ruthlessly across energy, infrastructure and SaaS. An EPC risk framework sharpens a SaaS implementation programme. A SaaS KPI discipline sharpens a portfolio developer's reporting. The best ideas don't respect sector lines.

05

Single principal, long engagements

LNRD is deliberately a single-principal practice. Every engagement is delivered by Paul — not staffed out to a team. Fewer clients, longer relationships, more candour.

Selected career highlights.

Experience

A career deliberately built across the full energy value chain — so the operator DNA brought to every engagement is genuinely cross-sector, not retrofitted.

Selected companies

Three decades of operator DNA.

A career deliberately built across the full energy value chain — from upstream oil & gas and EPC delivery to utility-scale renewables, BESS and clean fuels.

Beyond the principal.

LNRD is a single-principal practice, but three decades of operator DNA have built something bigger than one advisor: an extensive network of trusted, individually vetted specialists — seasoned practitioners LNRD can draw in whenever an engagement calls for deeper expertise. Boards and founders get the continuity of a single principal, with the reach of a much larger team when they need it.
